Post-Course Reflection

I feel that my writing has changed throughout this semester.  I learned many new techniques that I can apply for my future writings.  I learned how to write biography essays, significant moment essays, multi-genre essays, process analysis essays and more.  The techniques like the order of a significant moment essay or a clear physical description in a biography essay are helpful.   An accomplishment in addition to improving my writing is this portfolio which I may use to display my writings to colleges or other people.  I think that he peer editing process for each essay is very beneficial.  It helps you edit mistakes that you couldn’t catch while reading it.  But, it doesn’t take your essay away from you.  If you have an adult or teacher edit your essay, then it becomes a lot less like yours and more like theirs.  With the peer editing process, your peers point our errors that your didn’t see and you can choose which areas to fix and this way the essay remains original.

I think that the multi-genre essay was the toughest.  This was because the idea was a little abstract and I had four works to choose from.  I chose three works and found what they had in common.  The outline was very helpful in organizing my ideas.  In the end I was able to get through

The process analysis works were my favorite.  My class work with Josh was easy because it was fun to write.  We also were able to use our creativity so one we got started it went quickly.  My process analysis essay was about soccer.  This was fairly easy and quick also because I wrote based on my procedure every soccer game.  I have played many soccer games in my life so this was just writing from my memory.

I enjoyed the outside reading process.  Most of the time I don’t get around to read, especially during the school year.  This was a great opportunity to read the great biography Catch Me If You Can.  I was able to see the true story behind the guy in the movie that I love.  This topic of biography’s is perfect because the stories are very interesting.
My favorite part about the class is how many of our essays can be our college essay or help us write our college essay.  This is very helpful in lightening the workload when applying to colleges in the fall.  We also have an advantage over people who haven’t taken the class because they will be writing their essay without learning about what makes a good or bad college essay.  We learned what colleges are looking for and we don’t need some professional to write ours for us which may even hurt ones chances. For this reason I would highly recommend this class.

The only negative about this class is that seniors should be advised that it is more of a junior class.  I feel that it should be only offered to juniors and maybe even required.  I took this class because it was more of a “nuts and bolts” english class that will help me improve my writing.  This class was successful in doing that and I think that there should be more “regular” english classes like this one.
